ISEM is a historic Hosokawa brand with roots in Dutch engineering. The name remains associated with ball segment valves used in powder processing systems and forms part of the industrial heritage of present-day Hosokawa Micron B.V.
ISEM was founded in Doetinchem in 1928 by Dutch electrical-engineering pioneer Rento Wolter Hendrik Hofstede Crull. Its full name was N.V. Internationale Spinpot Exploitatie Maatschappij. The company developed specialised drive equipment for spinning pots used in the artificial-silk industry.
Hofstede Crull had previously founded the De Vijf electric motor factory in Doetinchem. After De Vijf ceased operations in the 1930s, motor repairs and the production of spinning equipment continued under the ISEM name. Patented developments from this period illustrate the company’s early focus on specialised industrial engineering.

Over time, ISEM expanded its activities from electrical engineering into mechanical engineering and components for industrial process equipment. The ISEM name subsequently became associated with ball segment valves for powder processing systems.
In 1983, ISEM was acquired by Hosokawa Micron. Four years later, its activities were combined with those of Nautamix and Machinefabriek Vrieco to form Hosokawa Micron B.V. In 1993, the combined operations moved to the company’s current premises in Doetinchem.
Today, the ISEM name continues through ball segment valves developed and supplied by Hosokawa Micron. It represents one of the historic Dutch engineering roots behind the company’s present-day powder processing expertise.
