The CPM conical paddle mixer is a multi-purpose batch mixer designed for mixing, drying and reaction processes with maximum efficiency and minimal product distortion. Its gently rotating paddle rotor generates a three-dimensional mixing pattern ensuring fast, homogeneous results — even with fragile or heat-sensitive materials. The CPM allows full discharge, precise temperature control and excellent product handling.
Key Benefits
Gentle, low-shear mixing of fragile or segregative powders
Suitable for mixing, drying and reaction processes
Accurate temperature control with jacketed vessel and cover
High mixing accuracy and short batch times
Fast and complete discharge through the bottom valve
Compact, energy-efficient, heavy-duty design
Easy to clean; hygienic construction
Available from 50 to >15,000 L
Principle of Operation
The CPM Conical Paddle Mixer features a conical vessel with a central paddle rotor that rotates at tip speeds of 1–10 m/s, generating a gentle combination of vertical, axial and radial movement. The paddles lift the product upward along the wall and guide it towards the centre, where gravity draws it back down — maintaining continuous motion even at low speeds.
This controlled, convective movement ensures uniform distribution of all components while preventing product degradation. The mixer’s jacketed wall enables precise heating, cooling or drying, and its open, obstruction-free interior ensures optimal hygiene and minimal product retention.
Thanks to its bottom discharge valve, the CPM achieves full product emptying, reduces manual cleaning, and minimises the risk of cross-contamination between batches. The design eliminates dead zones and allows excellent process reproducibility — ideal for demanding applications such as instant products, powder–liquid blending, or low-temperature drying under vacuum.
Process Flexibility
The Conical Paddle Mixer is suitable for a wide range of process applications, including:
Mixing of fragile powders and ‘instant’ agglomerates
Mixing of powders with liquids
Sterilisation and pasteurisation of product batches
High-temperature processing of powders and liquids
(Vacuum) drying at low temperature with liquid recovery

Options & Ancillaries
Enhance your Conical Paddle Mixer with a range of ancillary options tailored to fit your process needs. Hosokawa Micron provides customised solutions designed to maximise productivity and efficiency in your production plant. Our team of skilled engineers is ready to guide you in selecting the perfect ancillary equipment for your application, ensuring optimal performance and seamless integration with your mixer.
Hosokawa Micron has been developing innovative solids processing systems for more than a century. As a result, we can draw on an unparalleled amount of know-how when designing new powder mixing systems. In a powder mixing system, the equipment, process steps and interacting parameters must all work together as an integral solution in order to ensure the optimal functionality, quality and efficiency of your total system. That's why we carefully select, configure and integrate all the components and processes when designing a powder mixing system.
Before investing in new equipment, test your materials under real process conditions at our Test & Process Development Centre in the Netherlands. Our experienced specialists help you determine the most efficient mixing, agglomeration or drying process, from laboratory trials to full-scale production testing.
Whether you want to evaluate a single machine or a complete processing line, we provide tailored testing and process optimisation to ensure reliable scale-up and proven performance.
The CPM Conical Paddle Mixer is a multi-purpose batch mixer for gentle, low-shear mixing, drying and reacting of powders, pastes and slurries. Its conical vessel and rotating paddle rotor ensure homogeneous results with minimal product distortion — ideal for fragile or heat-sensitive materials across food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
How does the Conical Paddle Mixer work?
The Conical Paddle Mixer (CPM) is a multi-purpose batch mixer for powders, pastes and liquids. It combines gentle handling with efficient mixing, drying and reaction capabilities, ensuring homogeneous results with minimal product distortion and short batch times.
What materials can be processed in the CPM?
The CPM can process a wide range of powders, granules, pastes and liquids, including food ingredients, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and minerals. It is particularly suited for fragile or heat-sensitive materials, as well as vacuum drying or pasteurisation processes.
What are the main advantages of the CPM?
The mixer offers excellent temperature control, energy efficiency, and fast, full discharge. Its compact, hygienic design minimises product hold-up, reduces cleaning time and improves process yield. It can also be used for sterilisation, vacuum drying and reaction mixing.
What sizes and scale-up options are available?
The Conical Paddle Mixer is available in volumes from 50 to over 15,000 litres, with custom-engineered solutions for larger capacities. Hosokawa Micron provides pilot testing and process scale-up services to validate performance before full-scale implementation.
Can the CPM be customised for specific applications?
Yes. Options include vacuum or pressure operation, heating/cooling jackets, special seals, and liquid injection systems. Custom configurations can integrate into complete mixing, drying or sterilisation systems for optimised process performance.
