Valves and diverters for powder and bulk solids processing
SOLIDS HANDLING SOLUTIONS
Process technologies for tomorrow.

Valves & Diverters

Valves and diverters control how powders and bulk solids move through a processing system. Depending on their function, they can isolate equipment and pipelines, regulate or discharge material flow, or direct material towards different process destinations.

The appropriate design depends on the material properties, pressure conditions, required function and process environment. Hosokawa offers locking valves, rotary valves and diverters for a wide range of bulk solids handling applications.

Locking valves

Locking valves isolate silos, containers, pipelines and process equipment. They may be used in gravity systems as well as applications operating under vacuum or pressure.

Different designs are available depending on factors such as product characteristics, required sealing, pressure conditions, hygiene requirements and maintenance access. Hosokawa Micron

Locking valve solutions

  • Slide gate valves – For shutting off the flow of powders, granules and other bulk solids.
  • Pivoting and segment valves – For isolating vessels, pipelines and outlets with a relatively unrestricted flow path.
  • Butterfly valves – Compact shut-off solutions for silos, containers and pipelines.
  • Hygienic shut-off valves – For applications with increased hygiene and cleaning requirements.

Rotary valves

Rotary valves provide controlled feeding, dosing and discharge of fine powders, dusty products and granulates. They can be used below storage vessels or as part of conveying and dosing systems.

The design is selected according to the product characteristics, operating conditions, required throughput and hygiene requirements. Hosokawa Micron

Rotary valve solutions

  • General-purpose rotary valves – For feeding and discharging a broad range of powders and granulates.
  • Easy-clean rotary valves – For applications requiring frequent access and cleaning.
  • Hygienic rotary valves – For applications with stringent hygiene requirements.
  • Dosing rotary valves – For controlled and repeatable feeding of bulk materials.

Diverters

Diverters change the direction of a bulk material stream, enabling one conveying line or gravity pipe to serve different sources or destinations. This can increase system flexibility and reduce the number of separate conveying lines required. Hosokawa Alpine

Diverter solutions

  • Diverter flaps – For switching vertical material flow between two or more paths.
  • Two-way diverters – For directing material to one of two outlets.
  • Multi-way diverters – For distributing material between multiple destinations or combining several lines.
  • Hygienic diverters – For applications requiring easy cleaning and reduced product retention.

Integrated flow control

Valves and diverters are key elements in the controlled transfer of powders and bulk solids. Their operation must be coordinated with storage, discharge, conveying, dosing and process equipment to maintain reliable material flow throughout the system.

In complete powder processing systems, these components can be integrated with process controls and automation to ensure that material is isolated, fed and directed to the correct process step.
