On 18 and 19 May 2026, the 21st edition of the International R&D Meeting (IRDM) took place in Doetinchem, hosted this year by Hosokawa Micron B.V. During this international event, R&D specialists from different companies within the Hosokawa Micron Group come together to exchange knowledge, practical experience and technological developments in powder and process technology.
The IRDM focuses on international collaboration within R&D, learning from each other’s research and development projects, and sharing knowledge on translating R&D developments into commercial applications and market introductions.
R&D specialists from Japan, the United States, Germany and the Netherlands participated in the meeting. From Japan, where the headquarters of the Hosokawa Micron Group is located, Dr. Kohei Hosokawa, President of the Hosokawa Micron Group, and Dr. Masato Inamori, Board Member responsible for international business, also attended the event as guests.
During the two-day programme, several key R&D topics were discussed:
The meeting provided specialists from different disciplines and international locations with the opportunity to exchange knowledge and practical experience while jointly working on future technological developments within the powder processing industry.
Within the global R&D organisation of the Hosokawa Micron Group, process solutions for the powder processing industry are developed at an academic level. Scientific research, deep expertise in particle and process technology, and international industrial experience form the foundation for the development of process equipment and complete production systems.
The international R&D teams work on technologies for mixing, drying, size reduction and powder agglomeration for industries including chemicals, food, minerals, pharmaceuticals and advanced energy materials, including battery materials.
New concepts and customer processes are validated in one of the test centres within the Hosokawa Micron Group, where processes are tested under realistic operating conditions and scaled up to industrial production. This approach gives customers better insight into process performance while further reducing risks during scale-up.
With the International R&D Meeting, Hosokawa Micron once again underlines the importance of international collaboration, knowledge sharing and science-based innovation within the global powder processing industry.
