Hosokawa technologies are used behind the scenes in production processes for many familiar products. Our equipment mixes, dries, agglomerates, mills and handles powders used in household products, food, healthcare, personal care, mobility and many other industries.
In the home
Powder detergents need to disperse and dissolve readily in water. Detergent manufacturers use Hosokawa Flexomix technology to mix and agglomerate ingredients into porous, free-flowing granules with suitable handling and dissolution properties.
Super-absorbent polymers are used in disposable nappies and other absorbent hygiene products. Hosokawa agglomeration systems can support the production and processing of these highly absorbent materials.
Food and drink
Growing demand for nutritious and sustainable food is increasing interest in alternative protein sources. Plant-based proteins can be temperature-sensitive and challenging to process while preserving their functional properties. Hosokawa Micron supplies mixing and drying systems designed for the controlled processing of these materials.
Ingredients for biscuits, chocolate or potato crisps and other foods can be mixed using Hosokawa equipment. Mixing, milling and agglomeration technologies are also used to produce instant beverages and soups. Agglomeration can improve powder flow, dispersibility and dissolution while helping to reduce dust during handling.
Other products made using Hosokawa equipment include milk powder, bakery ingredients, breadcrumbs and spice blends.
Healthcare
Hosokawa equipment is used to mix and dry pharmaceutical ingredients under controlled conditions. Nauta® vacuum mixers and dryers support closed processing, while DMR flash dryers offer rapid drying for suitable heat-sensitive materials. The Cyclomix high-shear mixer can be used in the production of dry powder inhalation powders formulations.
Personal care
Many personal care products contain ingredients processed with Hosokawa mixing, drying and agglomeration equipment. Ingredients for cosmetic powders can be mixed and coated in Cyclomix high-shear mixers to achieve even pigment distribution. Other materials can be milled and micronised using Hosokawa Alpine milling technologies.
Mobility
Friction materials for bicycle, motorcycle and automotive brake pads can contain iron and other metal powders. Consistent composition and distribution of these materials are important for predictable performance, which requires accurate mixing.
Battery materials for for electric vehicles must meet demanding requirements for charging performance, capacity, safety and service life. Hosokawa equipment supports multiple stages of battery material production and recycling, including mixing, drying, milling, particle design and containment.
Hosokawa equipment is used in the manufacture of many other products, from pharmaceutical ingredients and pet food to printer toner and cement. These examples represent only a small part of the applications supported by our powder and bulk solids processing technologies.
